The Idea

lifestrea.ms focuses on accomplishing 4 tasks:

  • Aggregate everything that´s important for your daily life in one place: e.g. your friends, family and business acquaintances life, what´s going on in your local area, whassup in your spare time, what's new with your gadgets.
  • Re-Publish, comment and forward to the right people (or network). Posting and uploading to a growing number of your web 2.0 services all happens from one interface.
  • Build different reputations on different fields of interest: e.g. professional, local and private.
  • Let our personal information agent software introduce you to new and most probably very interesting and useful people and integrate their published knowledge in your personal lifestream.

The Details

[YO.] What are your friends doing today?
[WHASSUP] What´s up in your neighbourship?
[?] What´s going on in your business and what about your family?

Simple questions need simple answers.
That´s why lifestrea.ms founder Thomas Huhn claims:

"Life is not static. With web 2.0 every human is a feed."

[LIFE-FEEDS] Read your friends personal feeds and life will never pass you by.

Sounds crazy? Well, you all know personal homepages and personal profile pages. They are quite static and hardly represent your personal development, your daily moves and ever changing interests. But where do these life-feeds come from?

"A life worth living is a live worth recording" - Anthony Robbins

Your personal dashboard becomes an information hub - feeds come in, get commented or annotated, new content is produced and everything spitted out again to different people and different networks.

[PUBLISHING TOOL] With lifestrea.ms you publish your life easier, quicker and more meaningful than you ever did.

How does this work? lifestrea.ms is an instant publishing tool, allowing you to express your thoughts as fast like with twitter, enriched with photos from flickr and videos from youtube and automatically annotated with incredible powerful semantics, published from the web or from your mobile.

[FEEDREADER] But lifestrea.ms is not only a publishing tool - it aggregates all the "life-feeds" of your friends. And yes, this means it´s a feedreader too.

You can simply drop the URL of your favorite websites (or people) into your dashboard and lifestrea.ms finds the feeds of that page for you and adds them to your daily reading list.

Did I say daily? I´m sorry, your feeds are refreshed every minute and you´re always among the first to read new posts.

[SELF-LEARNING] You say "*sig*, all these feeds, all that information overflow"?

Don´t be scared, lifestrea.ms handles this for you: It learns by your usage which posts are interesting to you and which not. That way you get better focused information the longer you use lifestrea.ms - without any extra hassle. Anyway, you can always filter your feeds manually by positive and negative keywords.

So, be a brave man and simply drop in everything you can grab: feeds from people, blogs, flickr.com, upcoming.org, newswires, update notifications of your software or products, offers from your local dealer, google news searches, the rss of your mailinglists and even your google mail or google calendar. We even get you started with a bunch of potentially interesting feeds for you: a searchfeed for your name and for your location, including events, news and daily weather-forecasts. Another special feature is that you can store your so called "attention data": we show you how to feed your google searches into lifestrea.ms, which is a perfect way to find information later on without bookmarking it. You can distinguish between queries and clicked result links and even reproduce google maps queries! We can even tell you what results were clicked by other users who searched for the same terms ...

[DISCUSSION] But what about reacting to this incoming feeds, what about starting a discussion?

Good question, two answers: If lifestrea.ms knows the person behind that feed (private human or public blog e.g.), you will see a link for sending a direct message. This message reaches the receiver through their incoming feed from yhowhassup.com within a minute. He can respond to that the same way, which means you also have some kind of short message chat with lifestrea.ms.
If the person is external to the system, e.g. a blog, we at least try to trackback / pingback this blog. That way the blog publisher gets notified, your comment is published on his blog and he can even use the feedback link to register and continue the discussion with you.

[DIFFERENT PROFILES] You say, you´re not a exhibitionist and you really don´t want to publish everything to everybody?

We absolutely agree. We are a big believer that everybodys live has a lot of facettes: there´s the person you want to be in the public and maybe a different one in your business, addressed to your co-workers. And what about your family, your spouse, your children? Do they know a different person? A loving family man in opposite to the tough business guy?

lifestrea.ms will have free configurable personas later on, but for now we stick to what is proposed by the XFN-standards: professional, local, friends, family and romantic networks and their subnetworks (e.g. colleague and co-worker in professional). Additionally you can also publish information for everybody (public network), all for yourself (secret notebook) and directly to another person from your social network. Just to mention this: clearly you can add your contacts to more than one of your networks.

[MULTIPLE OPENIDs] But there´s even more: you get one OpenID hardwired for each persona!

Yes, lifestrea.ms is an OpenID provider too. This means you can start building your reputation in the field you like in the outside world and connect it to your lifestrea.ms content from beginning on. And lifestrea.ms OpenIDs are easy to handle, because one OpenID is always connected to exactly one social network of yours (e.g. professional or family).

You expected it already, and it´s true: every OpenID of yours can have it´s own profile page containing all the information you decide to publish to that special network, even those aggregated from your other Web2.0 accounts - it´s up to you. Sure it has an RSS-feed to support spreading the news to the world outside of lifestrea.ms, pinging technorati.com and other services with each post. Start building your reputation in your field of interest without any effort!

[EASY SEMANTICS] Wow, you say that´s a lot of possibilities, maybe too much too handle?

Be assured, it´s stupid simple and only two clicks away. Four clicks if you add some semantics like "this is something I do / have done / will do" or "this is my neighbour / sweetheart / child".

[INTELLIGENT MATCHING] Your asking why you should do these extra clicks?

Well, we want to give you more than the usual "search for people with similar interests" and "who are my friends friends". By adding semantics in an effortless (yes it is, you will see) way you can not only let the world know more differentiated about your relations to your social contacts, but you also give us the chance to bring you some completely new and intelligent services: lifestrea.ms searches it´s database all day long and proposes you results that could be interesting to you and which you may never have detected yourself. Guess where? In your incoming feeds.

screen detail 3[PERSONAL AGENT] Examples?

Imagine you´re driving a porsche and you´re thinking about changing to a brand new model. Interesting that somebody in your county is looking for exactly the car you´re driving right now.

Or did you know that your neighbour across the street, a researcher with the local university, could share some brand new knowledge with you, matching perfectly with your latest project?

Or how about traveling? Did you know that your colleague from Italy was traveling to Japan last year too? He could give you some really interesting tips on good restaurants with acceptable prices in Tokyo.

You see: we always try to match not only interests, but also time and place, e.g. by automattically geocoding your content. And again: by learning which information you prefer, over time the proposals you get will be more and more tailored to your needs.

[OPEN API] I give a lot of data to you. Can I use it elsewhere?

You can. We sure know that there will be more clever applications for your semantic data that we can even think of ourselfes, so we don´t want to keep your data locked away in a silo. We´re quite sure the smart developers out there will make the best out of our API that gives controlled access to your life-feed.

[PRIVATE BETA] Ok, I´m curious, let me in!
